Back by popular demand, the Pitch Pit rounds out the three-day event at the House of Blues, where producers of various standing will get to pitch their concepts to a panel of seasoned development experts. The event is a proven favorite that brings passion, talent and fresh ideas to the forefront.

In order to create the ideal situation in which key development executives and content creators meet under one roof, we remind you that the P.I.T.C.H. Pit is:

Presentation

You only get one chance to make a first impression so make it count! Presentation is key and includes everything from your pitch to you so look the part. If you have a healthy cooking show, you don’t have to come dressed as a bundle of asparagus tips but you do want to look like someone ready to do business.

Ideas

A good pitch is more than an idea. Know your target audience. Know the scope of your idea. Be able to discuss your idea as it relates to different formats. If you have any materials i.e. treatments, photos, DVDs, etc. be sure to label all clearly and professionally. Leave your handwriting for your signature on the deal you sign. ONLY leave behind materials if the development executive requests them.

Time

Don’t just be on time for your meeting…be early! Time is precious commodity so don’t waste it. Brevity is crucial. You don’t want to spend the entire meeting trying to prove that your idea is amazing. Give your best 1 – 2 minute pitch and leave time for questions and networking.

Credibility

In this industry, execution is the name of the game. The experience and credibility of a producer pitching will determine how far an idea can go. Be prepared to elaborate on your credentials and know what skill set and contacts you bring to the table.

Homework

Preparing to pitch means you also do some research regarding the company you plan to meet with. A dynamic presentation will fall on deaf ears if you pitch a scripted format to those who only do unscripted/reality programming. Executives will assume that you are presenting an original idea and/or one that you have the rights to. Take the time to ensure that have done all you can to protect your work and/or have the rights to what you are pitching.
